Riyadh: Roads General Authority (RGA) acting Chief Executive Eng. Badr Aldulami inspected the RGA's fleet of road survey and assessment equipment to ensure operational readiness ahead of the Hajj season.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the inspection aimed at guaranteeing the fleet's preparedness for conducting critical periodic surveys of roads leading to the Holy Sites, thereby ensuring safe and smooth transportation for pilgrims.

The RGA possesses the world's largest fleet, comprising 18 pieces of equipment employing five modern artificial intelligence-based technologies.

The RGA said these technologies contribute to enhanced safety, improved road quality, and a better experience for road users, particularly pilgrims and Umrah performers.

The technologies include specialized equipment for surveying surface damage, measuring the International Roughness Index (IRI), assessing road layer thickness, evaluating deflection, and testing skid resistance.

The most advanced among them is the surface damage survey system, with seven units currently available. Each unit is equipped with three high-resolution cameras and five laser sensors, enabling precise measurement of cracks and dents with an accuracy of up to 0.05 millimeters.

The systems also feature positioning and data storage devices.
