Roads Authority Oversees Over 4,100 Bridges Nationwide

Riyadh:The Roads General Authority has disclosed its management operations for more than 4,100 bridges throughout the Kingdom. The Shari-Hail Road Bridge holds the distinction of being the oldest bridge still in service, with over 57 years of operation. In contrast, the Safwa-Rahima Sea Bridge is the newest addition and ranks among the Kingdom's longest dual marine bridges, with a length of 3.2 kilometers.

According to Saudi Press Agency, The authority highlighted that the Kingdom's tallest bridge, standing at 55 meters, is situated at Al-Juwah Pass, linking the city of Abha with the Muhayil Aseer Governorate. It emphasized that all bridge designs adhere to the Saudi Road Code, which aims to ensure safety, durability, and sustainability, and takes into account the unique environmental and climatic conditions of each region.

Bridges in the Kingdom feature a variety of designs and structures, including box-girder, arch, beam, and slab constructions. The authority also confirmed the use of a Bridge Management System (BMS) to handle maintenance and operational needs. This digital platform integrates engineering methodologies for documenting, inspecting, and assessing bridge data and structures throughout their lifecycle.
