Riyadh: Riyadh has hosted the second meeting of the centers of excellence and technology network during the fifth edition of the Future Minerals Forum. This event gathered leaders in innovation, research, development, and geology from around the globe.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Vice Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs Khalid Al-Mudaifer opened the meeting by highlighting the initiative's role in developing a modern, responsible mining industry. He underscored the mining sector's potential to provide essential minerals for global electrification and create development opportunities for host countries, emphasizing the need to attract new investments and equip the next generation with the necessary skills.

The meeting reviewed the network's roadmap, with the sustainability center at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Morocco promoting transparency and responsible mining standards. The council for scientific and industrial research in South Africa will focus on talent development, while the mineral innovation acceleration program (MIAP) in Riyadh will lead technology and innovation efforts.

Discussions included topics such as "Energy Transition from Hydrocarbons to Mining," featuring experts from Saudi Aramco and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. Other sessions addressed challenges like "transparency in supply chains" and "building human capital."

The forum, which expects over 20,000 participants and nearly 400 speakers, will include events like the "Mining Investment Journey," MinGen workshops for youth and women, and a knowledge-sharing platform for advancements in geology, technology, sustainability, and skills development.
