Riyadh:The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) is actively constructing a new underpass at the intersection of King Abdulaziz Road and Anas bin Malik Road. This project aims to enhance traffic flow and connectivity between neighboring districts along one of Riyadh's principal corridors.
According to Saudi Press Agency, a traffic diversion was implemented at the intersection on November 6, 2026. This diversion includes the complete closure of the main carriageway of King Abdulaziz Road, redirecting vehicles to service roads with three lanes in each direction. Alternative routes and directional signs have been established to maintain traffic flow and ensure the safety of road users under a comprehensive traffic management plan coordinated with relevant authorities.
The King Abdulaziz Road project is part of the Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program. This section spans 4.7 kilometers and features four bridges in addition to the new underpass. Once completed, it will increase the road's capacity to accommodate over 450,000 vehicles daily, improve service levels, and reduce travel times.
The program encompasses the construction and upgrade of more than 500 kilometers of roads throughout Riyadh. It includes the development of new roads, enhancements to existing main corridors, and improved connectivity between them. This initiative is designed to strengthen the city's transport network and support its growth as a major hub for sustainable transport and logistics services in the Middle East.
