Rapid Surgery Repairs Fracture Around Prosthetic Joint, Enabling Turkish Pilgrim to Resume Hajj Rituals

Makkah: The rapid intervention, part of the urgent care system within the Saudi Model of Care, contributed to enabling a Turkish pilgrim to resume performing Hajj rituals just one day after undergoing surgery. She had been suffering from a fracture around a prosthetic joint at the lower end of the right femur, which had rendered her immobile due to bone instability around the joint.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Makkah Health Cluster indicated that a specialized medical team from the Department of Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgery at King Abdullah Medical City, a member of the Makkah Health Cluster, successfully performed an urgent fixation of the fracture around the existing prosthetic joint using metal plates specifically designed for this type of complex fracture. It stated that the medical team successfully performed the surgery following a thorough evaluation, confirming the integrity and stability of the prosthetic joint and proper fixation of the fracture.

Moreover, postoperative X-rays showed correct alignment and stability of the fractured bone, reflecting the high quality and precision of the surgical procedure. Makkah Health Cluster noted that this type of surgery requires expertise in managing prosthetic joints and related fractures, reflecting the integrated efforts of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff. It also highlighted the medical city's readiness with advanced equipment to provide high-quality and safe care for complex cases.
