Ramadan Drives Higher Demand for Siwak

Siwak: Siwak, a traditional chewing stick from the Salvadora persica tree, also known as the toothbrush tree, holds special significance during Ramadan, with many using it in their daily routine to maintain oral health, follow the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, and give it as a gift to family and friends.

According to Saudi Press Agency, Ahmed Al-Ghamdi, a Siwak seller, mentioned that the use of Siwak dates back more than 1,400 years. It was used by Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, which has contributed to its widespread popularity, especially during Ramadan.

Al-Ghamdi explained that the process of harvesting Siwak involves selecting healthy, robust trees. Branches are carefully cut, ensuring that the tree remains unharmed and can continue to thrive. After cutting, the Siwak sticks are thoroughly washed, dried, and then cut into convenient lengths, typically between 15 to 20 centimeters, for easier use.

Siwak continues to be a cherished tradition, offering both spiritual and practical benefits. Its rich history and connection to the Sunnah ensure that the treasured practice is passed down through generations in many households.
