Qatar Calls for Focusing on Youth Role in Crime Prevention and in Criminal Justice Policies

The State of Qatar stressed the necessity of searching for additional initiatives within the mechanism of combating transnational organized crime and drugs that focuses on the role of the youth in preventing crime and in criminal justice policies, involving the youth as crucial actors in protecting society and providing them with additional opportunities to contribute to the development of their countries and the promotion of a culture of peace.

This came in the State of Qatar’s speech delivered by HE Legal Adviser to HE the Minister of Interior Major General Dr Abdullah Yousef Al Mal, before the 32nd session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), currently held in Vienna.

His Excellency said that the State of Qatar is putting a great effort into immunizing Qatari youth against the dangers of crime and drugs. He added that the State of Qatar has established the Qatar Youth Council in 2022 with the aim of consolidating national identity and citizenship, as well as strengthening young people’s leadership skills and humanitarian sensibility.

Regarding the State of Qatar’s contributions to the youth regionally and internationally, Al Mal explained that Qatar’s Education Above All Foundation supports the right to education in developing countries, especially in regions facing crises, conflicts, and war. He added that the Foundation’s Educate a Child program provides access to quality primary education to more than ten million children in developing countries.

His Excellency noted the cooperation of the State of Qatar with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in implementing the Global Program for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration during the period 2016-2021, which devoted two of its four pillars to youth empowerment: Youth Crime Prevention through Sports and Education for Justice, with the latter receiving the United Nations Secretary General 2020 Innovation Award.

Al Mal said that the State of Qatar is proud of its success in hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which was a truly global youth event that strengthened ties amongst the world’s youth and peoples. (QNA)
