Riyadh:Qassim: Farmers in the Qassim Region are currently experiencing the Al-Jidad season, which marks the final stage of the date palm harvest. During this time, they collect the remaining dates from the palm trees, sorting them by variety and ripeness. As a region known for its mid-season date harvest, Qassim is now transitioning into a new phase of preparation and marketing.
According to Saudi Press Agency, farmer Abdulrahman Al-Hussein highlighted that the Al-Jidad season signifies the end of a long period dedicated to nurturing palm trees and consistent labor for Qassim's farmers. This stage involves meticulous preparation to harvest the remaining fruits, categorized by variety and ripening time, representing the culmination of a year's worth of effort.
Al-Hussein also noted that the Al-Jidad season historically served as a social event, fostering cooperation among neighborhood residents who collectively participated in date collection. This tradition underscored a way of life rooted in community solidarity, with dates providing both sustenance and economic activity.
Despite advancements in farming and harvesting techniques, which now rely more on laborers and modern collection methods, interest in the Al-Jidad season persists. Farmers remain committed to developing and preserving this important cultural and economic period.
The Al-Jidad season continues to encapsulate a year's harvest, a shared social memory, and an enduring economic resource for the region. While tools and methods have evolved, the palm tree continues to symbolize a rich agricultural heritage, sustaining its role in Qassim's agricultural and economic framework.
