Qassim Region’s Leafy Greens Cultivation Yields High Economic Returns and Sustainable Farming Practices

Qassim region: The Qassim Region is renowned for its vibrant and diverse agricultural output throughout the year, with a particular emphasis on its unique leafy greens. These greens are highly valued for their nutritional content, rich in essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber. They have become a staple in Saudi cuisine and have garnered significant interest from local farmers due to their ease of cultivation, low cost, and consistent market demand.

According to Saudi Press Agency, farmer Abdullah Al-Aqili noted that leafy greens are among the easiest and most economically rewarding crops to grow. They often allow for multiple harvests annually with minimal effort compared to other crops, thus promoting sustainable agricultural returns. The growing demand from local markets, restaurants, and supermarkets has encouraged farmers in the region to expand their cultivated areas.

Farmer Bandar Al-Obaid emphasized that the adoption of drip irrigation and temperature control in greenhouses has facilitated high-quality, year-round production of these leafy greens. He further highlighted the critical support from the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, which has been instrumental in providing training and guidance. This support has enabled farmers to adopt modern methods that reduce costs and boost productivity, ensuring a sustainable and economically viable agricultural practice in the region.
