Qassim: Governor of Qassim Region Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz has commended the success of the Green Qassim Land Initiative in planting five million trees as part of the broader Saudi Green Initiative (SGI).
According to Saudi Press Agency, in a recent meeting with the entities involved in the initiative, the governor lauded the efforts of all participating government and private sector organizations, particularly recognizing the contributions of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture's (MEWA) Qassim branch and the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) towards achieving this significant environmental milestone.
The governor expressed his admiration for MEWA's and NCVC's innovative approach to repurposing materials confiscated from environmental regulation offenders for sustainable use in reforestation projects, notably within the Qassim National Park. He also emphasized the region's ongoing commitment to enhancing vegetation cover and environmental protection.
MEWA's Qassim branch Director-General Eng. Salman Al Suwainea affirmed that the Green Qassim Land Initiative has progressed through various stages of collaboration with governmental and non-profit organizations, playing a key role in aligning with the SGI's objectives.
Furthermore, NCVC Qassim branch Director Ali Al-Asmari outlined the center's efforts to support the Green Qassim Land Initiative, including planting over 1.165 million trees in national parks and identifying 442 environmental regulation violations in 2024. Plans are in place to plant five million trees by 2030, with continued activities such as land reclamation and seed scattering in the region.
