Qassim Region Gets SAR996 Million Boost for Road Network Expansion

Qassim: The modern road network is a pivotal element driving the developmental, economic, and tourism growth of Qassim Region. Qassim Region boasts over 6,603 kilometers of roads serving all its governorates and centers. Currently, six development projects worth SAR831 million are underway. A key focus is the 161-kilometer link road connecting the Qassim-Madinah Highway with the Ar Rass-Afif Highway. The route will significantly facilitate access to Makkah, serve the region’s southwestern governorates, and enhance traffic safety.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the work on the key project covers the construction of a new 135-kilometer highway and a 26-kilometer dual-carriageway. A major feature is the 900-meter Wadi ar Rimah Bridge, making it one of the longest valley bridges in the Kingdom. The project also incorporates several new intersections and rest areas for cars and trucks.

Furthermore, maintenance work is being carried out on several vital roads, including the Qassim-Madinah, Qassim-Riyadh, and Qassim-Hail highways, at a cost exceeding SAR165 million, aiming to enhance road quality and safety for users.

The Roads General Authority (RGA) is working to enhance the efficiency of the transport sector and improve safety and infrastructure. Its program focuses on safety, quality, and relieving traffic congestion. It aims to achieve Saudi Vision 2030 targets by reaching the sixth rank globally in road quality and reducing the accident fatality rate to less than five cases per 100,000 population by 2030.
