Protests erupt across Pakistan following former PM arrest

The workers of the political party Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) have gathered to protest in different cities across Pakistan following the arrest of former prime minister and PTI Chief, Imran Khan on Tuesday.

According to reports, PTI workers have blocked all major roads in different cities of Pakistan including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Sawat, Quetta, and Karachi. PTI Vice Chairman, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has reiterated the party’s call for “peaceful protest”, following the arrest of the former prime minister. He said he was leaving for Islamabad where he had called a meeting of the PTI leadership and a six-member committee to determine the next course of action. Imran Khan was taken into custody from outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday. Police have imposed a ban on protests and there are reports of clashes in several cities with protestors.
