Madinah: The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques has successfully completed the restoration of the Bani Haram Mosque in Madinah. This significant site is intertwined with the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as it is the location where he prayed during the historic Battle of the Trench.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the mosque is situated at the base of Mount Sela and has a storied history, having been expanded during the reign of Umayyad Caliph Umar ibn Abdulaziz. The restoration efforts faithfully reconstructed the mosque on its original foundations, adhering to the traditional architectural style of Madinah. Local materials such as stone, clay, and wood were utilized to maintain its historical authenticity.
The renovation project expanded the mosque's area to 236.42 square meters, allowing it to accommodate up to 172 worshippers. This endeavor was carried out by specialized Saudi companies and engineers, and it reflects the goals of Vision 2030 by preserving the Kingdom's architectural heritage while also ensuring the sustainability of its religious sites.
