President Sall hails Egypt’s support to Senegal during his AU chairmanship

Senegalese President Macky Sall praised Egypt’s support to Senegal during his chairmanship of the African Union (AU) over 2022 in a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday.

Sall said the Egyptian support to all aspects of continental work during his chairmanship of the AU has reflected Egypt’s keenness under Sisi to prioritize the joint interests of the African nations and find solutions to the issues and crises facing the continent, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement.

Sisi congratulated Sall on the successful presidency of the AU last year amid the various regional and international challenges, which had great repercussions at the political, economic, and social levels in Africa.

The presidents also reviewed the preparatory arrangements for the annual African Union Summit scheduled for February, the presidency said.

They also discussed developments of the most prominent files of mutual concern at the regional and international levels.

The 2023 African Union Summit is scheduled to take place in mid-February at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Comoros is expected to assume the chairmanship of the AU this year for the first time.

Egypt’s President Sisi was the AU chair in 2019.

Egypt has voiced support to AU countries over the past years in various fields, including health, development, and counterterrorism.
