Prayer Grounds Square, a Historical Landmark for Visitors of Madinah

General

Madinah: The prayer grounds square, located in the southwestern side of the Prophet's Mosque, is one of the historical places in Madinah. It is where the Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, and his companions performed the Eid prayers and the prayers for rain. It is located about 150 meters away from the courtyards of the Prophet's Mosque.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the square contains several historic mosques, including the Mosque of Al-Ghamamah and the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque. The mosques, which date back to the 13th century AH, have undergone numerous repairs and restorations over the centuries.

During the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the two mosques received further care and attention as part of the project for the development and rehabilitation of historical Islamic sites. They were restored to the highest standards that preserve their unique architectural design, similar to other religious sites and historical landmarks in the region, enhancing their historical value associated with the life of the Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him.

The cameras of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) have captured images of the historic mosques and the surrounding square. The mosques, built with black basalt stones, have domes and interior walls painted white, giving the square a beautiful aesthetic appearance. Additionally, there are designated seating areas, wide walking paths, and green spaces adorned with palm trees, as well as informational plaques about the region and its history, connecting it to the biography of the Prophet. This has made it one of the historical landmarks that visitors are keen to visit and learn about.
