PNU Concludes 1st GCC Sports Tournament for Female Students in Universities and Higher Education Institutions


Riyadh, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU) concluded the first sports tournament for female students from universities and higher education institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The tournament featured competitive tennis, badminton, futsal, and volleyball events, culminating in a coronation ceremony for the top-performing universities.

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) secured first place in tennis, with Qatar University taking second place. King Saud University claimed third place in the same category.

King Abdulaziz University emerged victorious in badminton, while PNU secured second place, and UDST achieved third place.

PNU also claimed first place in futsal, a football-based game played on a hardcourt, followed by UDST in second place, and the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in third place.

PNU was crowned champion in the volleyball championship, with UDST in second place and Qatar University in third place.

iversity hosted the tournament from April 26 to May 1, 2024, marking a historic moment for female athletes in GCC universities. This first-of-its-kind event, the largest in the Gulf for female university competitors, aimed to ignite a passion for sports among female students and build stronger ties between universities across the region.

This inaugural edition sets the foundation for future tournaments, which will be held biennially, in line with the GCC Vision’s objectives of sports excellence, inspiring Gulf youth through sports, and developing a talented generation of athletes to represent the Gulf in international sports forums.
