PM reviews developments in renewable, green hydrogen projects

Posted on November 27, 2022 by Web Desk

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stressed the state’s interest in projects being implemented in the fields of new and renewable energy.

He also underlined the state’s keenness on offering better incentives to lure more local and foreign investments to implement these projects and expand the already existing ones.

He made the remarks on Saturday during a meeting on Saturday with Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker on renewable energy and green hydrogen production projects.

During the meeting, Shaker reviewed ongoing new and renewable energy projects, referring to the Benban solar energy plant which is the largest in Africa and the Middle East and the fourth at the international level.

He noted that the volume of investments in the Benban plant hit dlrs 2 billion and contributed to creating 10,000 jobs.

He added that the photovoltaic power project contributed to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 2 million tons annually.

He also referred to ongoing efforts in wind energy projects, including the Ras Ghareb wind stations at dlrs 380 million with a capacity of 250 megawatts, noting that this falls within the framework of the outcome of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27).

He also cited green hydrogen projects as well as the successful operation of a GE LM6000 aeroderivative gas turbine on hydrogen–natural gas blended fuel at the Sharm El Sheikh Power Plant.
