Photos: Art Cairo’s 4th edition kicks off at Grand Egyptian Museum

Art Cairo exhibition’s fourth edition opened Friday in the lobby of the Grand Egyptian Museum, running until February 14.

The exhibit is organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities represented by the Egyptian Tourism Authority.

Over 100 artists from Egypt and the Arab region, representing 25 galleries, are participating in the exhibition this year – the number of visitors is estimated to reach about 12,000.

The CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, Amr al-Kady, attended the opening, where he said that the authority is participating with a pavilion to display promotional material about Egypt as a tourist destination throughout the exhibition.

This move comes as part of the authority’s strategy to promote Egypt and the GEM as a unique destination that combines ancient and modern civilizations.

The Director General of Tourism Awareness at the authority, Eman Abdel-Rahman, explained that artwork from around 12 international art galleries and houses will be displayed at the region, focusing mainly on contemporary modern art of the Middle East.

She added that an extensive cultural program will be organized for a number of seminars regarding the artistic and critical practices of the Egyptian and Arab fine movement in general.
