Permanent Representative to UN Joins Meeting on Draft Mandates Review Resolution

New york: Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil took part in the informal meeting of the Informal Ad Hoc Working Group (IAHWG) on the Mandate Implementation Review. The meeting was dedicated to discussing the first draft of the 'Mandate Creation, Implementation and Review for an Effective United Nations' resolution. According to Saudi Press Agency, during his intervention, Alwasil expressed the Kingdom's appreciation for the co-chairs' leadership and facilitation of the consultations, affirming Saudi Arabia's readiness to cooperate with all member states. The Kingdom's permanent representative to the UN welcomed the improvements included in the open draft, particularly the reaffirmation of the UN Charter and the prerogatives of member states regarding mandates. He also underscored Saudi Arabia's support for strengthening the UN mandates registry and developing practical tools to reduce duplication, stressing the importance of transparency and inclusive participation. Alwasil called for further clarification of certain formulations in the text, describing the first open draft as a positive step toward a more coherent and effective mandates system, and reaffirmed the Kingdom's continued constructive engagement in the working group's efforts.
