Palestinian President Calls for Forming Committee to Complete Dialogue between Palestinian Factions to End Division

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged the participants of the meeting of heads of Palestinian factions to establish a follow-up committee that would focus on addressing various issues and files to put an end to division and attain national unity.

In the final statement of the meeting held in New El Alamein, Egypt, Abbas asked the committee to start working immediately to accomplish its mission and to submit the agreements or recommendations it reaches, expressing his hope that there will be another meeting soon in Egypt to announce the end of division and the restoration of Palestinian national unity.

Palestinian President said he considers today’s meeting a first and important step to completing the Palestinian national dialogue, expressing hope that the desired goals will be achieved as soon as possible, noting the efforts of the participating delegations to reach a comprehensive national agreement that gives the Palestinian cause the consideration it deserves.

The meeting of heads of Palestinian factions was held earlier Sunday under the chairmanship of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and with the participation of 12 Palestinian factions to discuss Palestinian developments and ways to restore national unity and end division in light of the significant challenges facing the Palestinian cause aimed at eliminating the Palestinian national project.
