Pakistan?’s top court orders release of former PM

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday termed the arrest of former prime minister of Pakistan and chief of political party Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan illegal and ordered his immediate release.

The apex court of the country ordered instant freedom for the ex-premier, who was arrested on Tuesday from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) over an alleged corruption case.

The three member bench of the top court headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial directed the National Accountability Bureau to present Imran before the court. Strict security arrangements were made in the federal capital?’s Red Zone area to avoid any untoward incident from happening.

Earlier, violent protests erupted across Pakistan after the arrest of the PTI Chief killing at least eight people and injuring 300 others. Security forces have arrested over 1,900 enraged protesters.
