Over 1,600 Saudi-Bred Camels Compete at Crown Prince Camel Festival

Riyadh: Rounds dedicated to Saudi-bred camels at the Crown Prince Camel Festival 2026 recorded participation exceeding 1,600 camels across the Haqayeq and Laqaya categories, reflecting the growing presence of Saudi owners and producers and the expansion of the local production base in camel racing. According to Saudi Press Agency, the Haqayeq category attracted 989 camels, while the Laqaya category's opening rounds saw 671 camels compete, with two additional Saudi-bred camel cup rounds expected Tuesday. Executive Director of Saudi Camel Sports Eng. Mahmoud Al-Balawi said the participation reflects growth in the local production sector, noting that dedicated rounds have given Saudi owners greater space to compete and showcase the quality of national breeds, thereby raising their market value and supporting a sustainable sports and economic environment. The festival, organized by Saudi Camel Sports, is held on the Taif Camel Racing Track with total prizes exceeding SAR50 million.
