Riyadh: The fourth annual Otaiqah Dates Season is set to commence in early August, promising a diverse array of programs and activities at the Agricultural Seasons Hall in Otaiqah Central Market in Riyadh. The event aims to attract visitors and date enthusiasts from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states over a four-month period, aligning with the various date harvesting seasons in the region.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the season serves as a significant tourist attraction for visitors and shoppers from all societal segments. It also provides a platform for interested parties and investors to explore the economic aspects of the date industry in Saudi Arabia. The sector's products are exported to over 113 countries, contributing around 12% to the agricultural GDP, thereby supporting the national economy.
The Otaiqah Dates Season holds the distinction of being the largest date market in Riyadh and Saudi Arabia. It emphasizes the tourism and economic significance of the event hosted by Riyadh, impacting GDP, manufacturing industries, economic diversification, and enhancing the country's economic vitality.
This season acts as a comprehensive platform for showcasing various date varieties from the Kingdom, bringing together merchants and farmers to meet the demands of customers and consumers. To enrich visitor experiences, this year's season activities will cover a total area of 10,000 square meters, including a 2,500-square-meter air-conditioned indoor hall.
To empower merchants, farmers, and businesses, the season management has allocated 65 retail stalls for their use. The Otaiqah Haraj, noted as one of the largest traditional date auctions in the Kingdom, features 16 lanes and draws merchants from across the region. Additionally, an online store will facilitate broader customer reach with convenient delivery services.
Entertainment activities and freshly prepared food by productive families and food trucks form part of the season's offerings. The Otaiqah Dates Season, an initiative by the Riyadh Development Company, underscores the collaborative efforts and support from stakeholders, aiming to enhance the market and ensure the success of the season and its events.
