Jeddah: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step toward de-escalation in the region. It emphasized that this opportunity must be seized to advance serious negotiations addressing the root causes of the crisis.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the OIC expressed hope that the agreement will lead to a permanent and comprehensive cessation of hostilities, in line with international law, respect for state sovereignty and good neighborly relations, the safeguarding of freedom of navigation, the prevention of renewed tensions, and the strengthening of regional security and stability.
The OIC also commended the valuable efforts of its Member States, particularly highlighting the active role of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in containing the escalation.
