Jeddah: The Extraordinary Open-Ended Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the Level of Permanent Representatives convened in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to address the escalating Israeli aggression against Palestinian people and holy sites, particularly focusing on the Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil.
According to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the meeting strongly reaffirmed previous resolutions from the Islamic Summit Conference and other bodies concerning Palestine and Al-Quds Ash-Sharif. The committee expressed grave concern over increasing Israeli attacks on both Islamic and Christian holy sites, emphasizing the need for Israel to cease hostilities, withdraw forces, and facilitate humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. It also condemned Israel's blockade and its impact on Palestinian civilians, describing it as a violation of international law.
The communiqué rejected any plans that involve the displacement of Palestinian people or alter the region's demographic composition, warning states against cooperation with Israeli policies that violate international law. It highlighted the severe consequences of ongoing military aggression, including the destruction of infrastructure and forced displacement in the West Bank.
A significant focus of condemnation was the Israeli attempt to transfer management of the Ibrahimi Mosque to an illegal settlement council, as well as recent bombings and settler attacks on Christian sites. The committee underscored Israel's lack of sovereignty over Palestinian territories and its holy sites, supporting Palestine's right to oversee these sites.
The OIC outlined tasks for its members and international organizations to safeguard Palestinian cultural heritage, calling on UNESCO and others to monitor and report violations. It urged the international community to impose sanctions on Israel to halt illegal activities and violations of humanitarian law.
The communiqué further encouraged member states to support Palestine financially and humanitarianly, and to boycott Israeli cultural and academic events. It concluded by mandating the OIC General Secretariat to follow up on these resolutions and report to the next session of the Council of Foreign Ministers.
