OIC Chief: Organization keen on resolving situation in Sudan

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is keen on contributing to efforts to resolve the situation in Sudan, possibly sending a delegation to the Arab country for this very purpose, said the Secretary General of the OIC Hissein Brahim Taha Wednesday.

This affirmation came during an urgent Jeddah meeting for the OIC executive committee called upon by Saudi Arabia, the current chair.

Taha expressed sorrow over the recent clashes in Sudan, which was expected to simmer down due to current talks amongst those involved in the infighting, but the situation continues to deteriorate.

He indicated that there was hopes that a new date would be set to sign the final document on forming the transitional government; however, the lack of restraint and commitment to the ceasefire agreements did not bode well.

Both the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) must cease their actions or more human losses would occur in addition to further infrastructural damages, he Taha stressed.

He commended Saudi Arabia and members of the organization for holding the urgent meeting in line with regional and international efforts for de-escalation in Sudan
