Riyadh: Northern Borders Region is currently witnessing the vibrant bloom of the glandular globe-thistle, scientifically known as Echinops sphaerocephalus.
According to Saudi Press Agency, Chairman of the Aman Environmental Association Nasser Al-Majlad said the plant is easily recognizable by its spherical flowers, which range in color from purple to blue. These flowers grace the valleys, sandy expanses, and mountainous areas throughout the spring and summer months.
As a drought-resistant species, the plant thrives in the harsh desert environment, flourishing especially after rainfall. Beyond its resilience, the plant plays an essential ecological role, stabilizing the soil and serving as valuable forage for camels and other livestock. This striking plant underscores the rich diversity of vegetation in the Kingdom's desert landscape.
