Riyadh: The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has announced the significant commercial success of a trial harvest involving three newly developed local wheat varieties. The initiative, inaugurated by Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley in February, yielded an impressive 8,000 kilograms per hectare.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the successful trial built upon approximately three seasons of scientific experimentation. It involved cultivating the three varieties across more than 45 hectares in Al-Jouf Region, a project undertaken by the Al-Jouf Agricultural Development Company in collaboration with the Reef National Foundation, utilizing advanced agricultural techniques.
This project to cultivate improved local wheat varieties is a key component of the ministry's Seed Center plan, designed to strengthen domestic wheat strains. It directly aligns with the objectives of the National Agriculture Strategy and reflects the ministry's dedication to fostering sustainability and boosting local production efficiency, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
