NCFA, SCJ sign MoU on children’s digital rights

National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) and Save the Children-Jordan (SCJ) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aimed to establish a framework for implementing and managing the digital rights and safety project for children in Jordan. Speaking at the signing ceremony, NCFA Secretary-General, Dr. Mohammad Miqdadi, said the council sought to enhance the concept of a participatory approach with relevant institutions, as reflected in its strategies, programs and activities, as a coordinating body to orchestrate efforts to serve the family's interests. Miqdadi added that the memo signed with SCJ seeks to enhance digital safety, especially in light of the rapid technological developments globally and based on the NCFA's role as specified in Article 30 of the Child Rights Law in following up and developing a periodic report to monitor the status of children's rights, by a national committee tasked to enforce the law. Furthermore, according to the indicators of the Children's Digital Rights an d Safety Project, guarantees will be provided for safe digital spaces for children and their protection from all forms of violence online in line with the Child Rights Law, he pointed out. Meanwhile , SCJ CEO , Dana Areikat, valued the "constructive" partnership with the NCFA, noting that this project was designed based on the results of a study recently prepared by the organization on digital safety for children and adolescents, which included 1,500 teenagers, in addition to 750 parents. Under the memo, the two sides will conduct a comprehensive review of digital protection systems for children and adolescents in Jordan, primarily for policies, legislation, procedures and institutional frameworks in online protection and an analysis of needs and gaps.
