Abu Dhabi: The National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) and the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) signed today a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the area of ??preparedness for radiological and nuclear emergencies and the response to them.
Director General of NCEMA Mohammed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithi and Director-General of FANR William Travers signed the MoU at a special ceremony in Abu Dhabi representing the two organisations respectively.
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) is the independent government body charged with regulating and licensing nuclear activities in the UAE, which in addition to the nuclear power programme, includes radioactive material and radiation sources used in medicine, research, oil exploration and other industries.
NCEMA is the major national standard-setting body responsible for regulating and coordinating all efforts of emergency and crisis management as well as the development of a national plan for responding to emergencies.
