Najran: Residents of Najran Region recall each year during the month of Ramadan memories of fasting in the past that reflect the simplicity of life and the strong family bonds that characterized those days, as well as the spirituality and social traditions associated with them. A Najran resident who experienced fasting 60 years ago recalled, 'Fasting during Ramadan in the past was difficult, as air conditioners were not available and food supplies were limited.' He noted that residents used to prepare early for Ramadan by storing crops grown on their lands such as dates, corn, and wheat to prepare suhoor and iftar meals. He added that rural village residents, with their mud houses, would go to bed early and gather for the suhoor meal.
According to Saudi Press Agency, during the days of Ramadan, the atmosphere was filled with work and worship, while families gathered around simple meals that reflected their appreciation for what they had. The social aspect of Ramadan was also evident, he said, as those most in need received special attention, with food distributed to the poor and the needy, reflecting the spirit of social solidarity. He emphasized that memories of Ramadan remain present in the hearts of residents despite the passage of time, embodying the spirit of faith and social bonds and forming an inseparable part of their cultural identity. Recalling them is seen as a revival of a rich heritage that deserves to be passed on to future generations.
