Riyadh: The Music Commission has concluded its initiative to teach music to students with disabilities. The extracurricular program was designed to foster inclusion in cultural and artistic activities. Inspiring concerts were held in Riyadh, Alkhobar, and Jeddah, attended by officials and cultural figures, where participants showcased their musical creativity and talent.
According to Saudi Press Agency, spanning seven months, the program engaged 65 male and female students with disabilities, who received specialized musical training from 18 instructors across 10 musical disciplines. The initiative provided an inclusive learning environment that met their individual needs and celebrated their artistic abilities.
During the closing ceremony, Music Commission CEO Paul Pacifico described the initiative as a pioneering step toward empowering people with disabilities to access music education and participate fully in Saudi Arabia's cultural and social life. He stated, "True artistic excellence is achieved when every voice has the opportunity to be heard." He added that the initiative achieved over 90% parent satisfaction and 83% approval from instructors, reflecting its success in meeting educational and human objectives. He noted that the initiative extended beyond music education, contributing to a more inclusive cultural framework that recognizes people with disabilities as active participants and talented contributors, from classrooms to concert stages and beyond.
The closing performances featured group musical pieces that highlighted the students' skills in playing and performance. The events also included moments of recognition, as the Music Commission honored the participants for their dedication and creativity.
This initiative is part of the Music Commission's efforts to promote music as a means of expression and communication, enabling all segments of society to engage in the cultural and artistic scene. It reflects the Commission's commitment to building an inclusive and inspiring musical scene in line with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to nurture creative talent and reinforce the values of inclusion and diversity across the cultural sector.
