Riyadh: The Museums Commission hosted a virtual talk titled ‘Minted Narratives: Saudi Arabia’s Legacy in Coins,’ as part of its monthly series exploring key themes and opportunities within the museum sector. The session brought together museum professionals and specialists from Saudi Arabia and across the Arab world to share insights and experiences with a broader audience.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the talk highlighted coins as important cultural and historical witnesses and explored the role of scenography in transforming museum content into engaging and immersive experiences.

The session featured an in-depth discussion with numismatics specialist Dr. Naif Al-Sharaan, who reflected on his passion for numismatics and discussed the core narratives of the exhibition. He emphasized the social and cultural meanings embedded in coins beyond their function as currency.

Studio Jad and Ghaith also presented their creative vision, explaining how scenography translates scholarly content into compelling visitor experiences. They shared insights into the creative and technical challenges involved in developing the exhibition, which was realized in collaboration with designer Farah Fayyadh.

The exhibition ‘Minted Narratives’ continues at the National Museum of Saudi Arabia, showcasing a rare selection of historical coins spanning the Islamic caliphates through to the modern Saudi state, alongside contemporary artworks inspired by the symbolism of currency. Developed as part of the Saudi Museums Commission’s efforts to preserve national heritage, the exhibition reinforces the role of museums as platforms for knowledge exchange and cultural dialogue, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
