Cairo: The Musaharati continues to hold a special place in Arab popular memory as one of Ramadan's most cherished traditions, walking through alleys and streets each night to wake people for the Suhoor meals and the Tahajjud prayers.

According to Saudi Press Agency, despite the rise of modern alarm systems and widespread smartphone use, the voice of the Musaharati still echoes in some traditional Arab neighborhoods, preserving its symbolic and social role. In Egypt, the Musaharati is a beloved part of popular heritage, walking through alleys with his small drum and leather mallet, chanting his distinctive phrases.

Between drumbeats, he calls out the names of neighborhood children, who delight in hearing their names called, sparking joy and enthusiasm that encourages them to rise for Suhoor and embrace the spirit of the holy month.
