Makkah: The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced that the municipalities in Makkah and Madinah carried out 41,395 inspection tours and monitoring visits during the period from 1 to 25 Ramadan 1447 AH. According to Saudi Press Agency, the ministry noted that this comes as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen health and municipal oversight, ensure the safety of food and commercial activities, and raise compliance with municipal regulations in Makkah and Madinah, which witness increasing numbers of Umrah performers and visitors during the holy month of Ramadan. The ministry indicated that the Holy Makkah Municipality carried out 36,324 inspection tours during the same period, including 19,103 health inspections of food and health establishments and 17,221 market monitoring tours. These efforts aim to enhance food safety, protect public health, and ensure establishments comply with municipal requirements in areas experiencing intensive commercial activity during the holy month. The municipali ty also handled more than 263,000 tons of municipal waste during the same period, as part of its comprehensive sanitation and environmental health services across Makkah's neighborhoods and the central areas surrounding the Grand Mosque. This helps maintain public cleanliness and improve the urban landscape in areas that receive large numbers of Umrah performers and visitors. In Madinah, the municipality carried out 5,071 inspection visits and monitoring tours, including 2,879 health inspections and 2,192 market monitoring tours. It tested 1,107 food product samples to ensure compliance with health requirements and their safety for consumption. The ministry affirmed that these efforts form part of its operational plans for the Ramadan season in the two holy cities, aimed at strengthening food safety, enhancing the efficiency of field monitoring, and improving the quality of municipal services provided to Umrah performers and visitors, in line with the significant increase in the number of people frequenting the two cities during the holy month.
