Mountains of Najran Showcase Geographic Diversity, Environmental Richness

General

Riyadh: The mountains of Najran, with their diverse terrain, distinctive rock formations, and towering peaks, have shaped the region's natural and human identity throughout history, making them one of its most prominent natural features that bring together geographic diversity and environmental richness.

According to Saudi Press Agency, on the International Mountain Day, observed annually on December 11, the mountains of Najran come into focus as they recount stories etched into their rocks through various inscriptions and ancient writings rendered in different scripts. These inscriptions have created a breathtaking visual scene that has drawn explorers from around the world to uncover the archaeological, historical, and geographical details they hold.

The mountains of Najran Region have long played a central role in shaping traditional architectural patterns, as residents historically built their mud houses along their slopes - some of which still stand atop the peaks - reflecting the history of the people and their ability to adapt to mountainous environments. The mountains are also home to a variety of trees, plants, and wild herbs that flourish during the rainy season, in addition to supporting wildlife through the presence of numerous bird species and wild animals.

Among the region's most notable mountains is Mount Raoum, crowned by the historic Raoum Fortress, now a popular tourist destination. Together with the region's valleys, they form a picturesque landscape that underscores the natural beauty that characterizes Najran Region.
