Mishkah Installation Offers Spiritual Experience at Islamic Arts Biennale

General

Jeddah: The Mishkah (lamp) installation at the Islamic Arts Biennale 2025’s Al-Munawwarah Pavilion offers visitors an immersive experience by blending light, fragrant aromas, and a deep sense of place, embodying the unique spiritual essence of Madinah. The installation reflects Madinah’s spiritual bond with light, a choice inspired by the city’s history of prophetic radiance and deep spirituality. It offers a multi-sensory experience, with light symbolizing tranquility.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the artwork uses Mangour panels, traditional Madinah handicrafts, as its central element. These panels are carved in three layers, displaying geometric patterns inspired by mosque chandeliers, creating a cohesive artistic piece highlighting Islamic architecture. Built from mahogany wood and glass, and measuring up to 2.5 x 2 meters, the panels’ intricate latticework refracts light. This projects luminous patterns onto the floor, adding a dynamic visual element that encourages contemplation.
