Riyadh: Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Transport General Authority (TGA) Saleh Al-Jasser inaugurated the fifth edition of the Distinct and Safe Roads campaign today. Organized by the TGA, the campaign aims to survey and evaluate the Kingdom's road network outside urban areas over five consecutive days.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this year's campaign involves over 620 participants, including members of the transport and logistics system, university students, and the Roads Security Special Forces, along with representatives from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources. The participants, divided into 62 teams, are deployed across various regions of the Kingdom to monitor and document road conditions, such as potholes, cracks, visual distortions, weak communication networks, and other factors affecting service quality for road users.
As part of the campaign, Al-Jasser introduced cutting-edge technology to measure the reflectivity of road signs. This innovative tool evaluates the quality and clarity of road signs, particularly at night or in adverse weather conditions. Using specialized devices to measure reflected light, the technology ensures that traffic signs remain visible and effective, identifying those in need of maintenance or replacement to enhance road safety.
The campaign seeks to improve the Kingdom's road network and provide a safe, seamless experience for road users. This includes a comprehensive evaluation of over 73,000 kilometers of roads, ensuring the sustainability of infrastructure and maintaining high standards of road efficiency. Building on the successes of the previous four editions, the initiative aims to reinforce Saudi Arabia's global leadership in road network connectivity.
Additionally, the campaign focuses on updating digital data maps of infrastructure assets, supporting road maintenance operations, enhancing mobility, improving the visual landscape, and elevating the quality of services provided. These efforts contribute to raising the quality of life for road users and ensuring the continued development of the Kingdom's transportation infrastructure.
