Jeddah: The Middle East Endocrine, Diabetes and Obesity Congress (MEDOC26), organized by the Saudi Scientific Diabetes Society, concluded yesterday in Jeddah after four days.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the congress's recommendations underscored the importance of raising public awareness of chronic conditions associated with obesity, particularly non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. They also emphasized the need for early detection and effective treatment to reduce complications arising from these conditions.

The recommendations highlighted the role of modern technologies in diabetes management, emphasizing the importance of regular blood glucose monitoring with advanced devices to improve disease control. They also addressed diabetes management during the holy month of Ramadan, offering guidance on adjusting medication dosages for fasting patients.

The recommendations further noted that weight-loss injections may be used during Ramadan after consultation with a specialist to ensure patient safety. They emphasized the need to correct misconceptions surrounding obesity treatments, warned against videos circulating on social media that may be produced by non-specialists, and stressed the importance of adhering to the Saudi Food and Drug Authority's instructions regarding the use of scientifically authorized treatments.
