Health min. : 94% of coronavirus deaths are among people older than 50

Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed has said that 94% of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths were among people in the age group from 50 to 59, most particularly those suffering from chronic diseases.

Zayed’s remarks came during a meeting on Thursday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli to review the latest developments of the coronavirus outbreak in Egypt.

During the meeting, the health minister added that the rate of infections in the country is still under control, compared to other world countries that see a significant increase in the number of infected cases and deaths.

The health minister went on to say the country has so far recorded 779 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 52 deaths, pointing out that 179 people recovered from the disease.

The largest number of infections was registered among those coming from abroad and those who were in contact with them, Zayed said.
