Makkah to Host SMIIC Meetings Next Week

Makkah will host the meetings of the Board of Directors and General Assembly of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) next week from October 30 to November 1.

The meetings will take place at the Hilton Makkah Convention Hotel with the participation of more than 45 Islamic countries and international and regional organizations.

The SMIIC works on developing standard specifications and activating cooperation and joint Islamic work regarding standardization activities with the aim of enhancing economic and industrial growth and maximizing the benefits of inter-trade between member states.

The institute also seeks to ensure the active participation of stakeholders and support efforts to enhance the quality of infrastructure and intensifying communication between countries.

The Kingdom’s chairmanship of these meetings aims to highlight the pivotal Saudi role regionally and internationally in strengthening cooperation and joint Islamic work in all fields.

The meetings will be held under the patronage of Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, and under the chairmanship of SASO Governor and Chairman of SMIIC Board of Directors Saad bin Othman Al-Kasabi.
