Makkah: The Holy Makkah Municipality has placed great emphasis on food and water safety by operating an advanced laboratory system built to the highest technical standards, highlighting its commitment to enhancing food safety during the Hajj season.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the municipality operates five laboratories, which include a central laboratory and mobile labs strategically located in key areas. These facilities have a combined analytical capacity of up to 1,300 samples per day, enabling rapid testing and prompt field action when necessary.
The main food safety laboratory is responsible for receiving and analyzing food and water samples from various sources to ensure they are suitable for human consumption, in compliance with the standards set by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO).
