Local development min. govt acting to upgrade waste recycling

Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy said Monday that the government is working to upgrade the efficiency of the process of waste collection and transportation across Egypt.

The government is seeking to improve the level of cleanness and maintain citizens’ health, according to a statement by the Local Development Ministry.

Shaarawy also pointed to efforts to safely dispose of garbage, the statement added.

The minister was speaking while inspecting the Al Salam Factory for the treatment and safe disposal of municipal solid waste together with Cairo governor Khaled Abdel Aal.

The plant is run by the Egyptian Company for Integrated Waste Management (ECWM) in line with a contract signed with Cairo governorate to that effect.

Shaarawy directed to upgrade the efficiency of waste treatment and recycling at the plant, the statement noted.

Al Salam is one of two factories concerned with waste recycling in Cairo, said governor Abdel Aal.

The second plant is located in the 15th of May City and is used, besides in waste recycling, to secure an alternative fuel to coal for cement factories, he added.
