Local charity highlights five-year achievements of Makani joint project with UNICEF

The Islamic Charity Center Society (ICCS) on Saturday celebrated the achievements of the “Makani [My Place] Project in Five Years,” which was implemented in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support education services, youth capacity building, community innovation, child protection, early childhood development, health education and the mobile clinic. Head of the ICCS Jamil Dhaisat said that the Makani project is being carried out in 8 governorates and 45 poor areas and employs more than 600 workers and volunteers, costing about JD36 million, 80 percent of which were covered by UNICEF. Its services have reached more than 1.25 million young men and women, children and women. In a speech delivered on behalf of Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa, the Secretary-General of the ministry Barq Damour stressed that the networking and cooperation approach establishes a culture of voluntary civil work, enhances the spirit of initiative and instills a sense of belonging, lauding the efforts of the ICCS in this area. Damour also pointed out the importance of benefiting from modern technological developments to achieve social protection, adding that technology should play an active role in line with the societal needs and desires of the targeted citizens in the targeted programs. Deputy Representative at UNICEF Jordan Shairose Mawji said that the Ministry of Social Development plays a key role in implementing the Makani project, the impact of which is clear on the children who benefit from the project.
