‘Level Up’ Series Reveals Behind-the-Scenes of Biggest Event in Esports History

Riyadh: One of the world's leading entertainment platforms will begin streaming a documentary series filmed in Riyadh on the first day of Eid Al-Adha, documenting the journey of the Esports World Cup, hosted by the Kingdom in the summer of 2024.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the five-episode documentary series offers esports fans worldwide an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the largest event of its kind, which cemented Saudi Arabia's position as a global hub for sports and entertainment. The documentary series, titled "Esports World Cup: Level Up," will stream on Amazon's Prime Video platform, with a new episode released weekly.

The series highlights key moments from the inaugural edition of the tournament, which drew over 500 million global views and featured 1,500 international players representing 200 clubs from more than 100 countries. Competing across 21 games in 22 tournaments, they vied for a record-breaking prize pool of $60 million - the largest in esports history.

'This series highlights the dedication, passion, and extraordinary determination of the players and teams as they give their all to reach the top - amid immense pressure and the pursuit of $60 million in prize money,' series director R.J. Cutler said. Viewers will witness the true face of these competitors and gain a closer look at their human side, the director said.

The series explores compelling human stories of leading esports stars from around the world, including Saudi champion Musaed Al-Dossary, winner of the previous edition. Produced in a documentary style that combines real footage with on-the-ground coverage from Riyadh, the series was created in collaboration with the Esports World Cup Foundation and produced by This Machine, a Sony Pictures Television company.

It was overseen by Jon Dorsey, with executive producers Jane Cha Cutler, Trevor Smith, Elise Pearlstein, and Marc Platt.
