Lebanon signs agreement with Egypt to import gas through Syria

Lebanon signed an agreement on Tuesday to import gas with a representative of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company at the Ministry of Energy, in the presence of the Egyptian ambassador to Beirut.

The Lebanese Energy Minister, Walid Fayyad, stressed that “This agreement would not have happened without Egypt’s adoption of the project from the first moment, following it up in its details and supporting all its stages, leading to securing an increase in the quantity.”

Fayyad explained that “This agreement will provide an additional 4 hours of electricity in Lebanon, which it desperately needs.”

The Al-Jadeed TV channel reported that the implementation will not take place in the near future, pending the American green light and the completion of technical and logistical preparations for Lebanon.

The representative of the Syrian ambassador said after the signing of the gas agreement: “We are ready to pass Egyptian gas to Lebanon without any delay, and there is no legal or commercial problem with the implementation of the agreement.”
