General

Buraidah: The Klija Festival in Buraidah reflects a long record of leadership in cultural and community development. Launched 17 years ago by Qassim Region Governor Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, the festival has evolved from an initiative to showcase a single local product into a major annual event that embodies the authenticity and cultural identity of the region.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the festival has helped transform ‘Klija’ from a traditional pastry into a recognized cultural and economic symbol by empowering producer families, supporting artisans, and turning heritage-based skills into sustainable sources of income. It has also strengthened the presence of Qassim Region’s culinary heritage both locally and internationally.

Over the years, the Klija Festival has become a prominent tourist and cultural attraction, reinforcing the concept of a heritage-based cultural economy and enhancing Qassim’s position as a destination that supports cultural and food industries. In this context, the Culinary Arts Commission adopted ‘Klija’ as the signature popular dish of Qassim Region, affirming its cultural value, its role in representing the region’s food identity, and its growing presence on the national cultural scene.
