Rome: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the water sector and addressing global water challenges, stressing the need for implementing integrated water resources management to ensure sustainability, overcome water scarcity, and develop water resources.
According to Saudi Press Agency, this message was conveyed during the Kingdom's participation in the "Value of Water Community" forum, held in Rome, to discuss Italy's key water sector challenges, such as the impacts of climate change, declining groundwater levels, and the necessity for advanced technologies to ensure sustainable water resources.
Deputy Minister for Water at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, emphasized that Saudi Vision 2030 prioritizes water sustainability as a fundamental pillar of national development. Given the Kingdom's natural water scarcity, comprehensive strategies have been implemented to enhance water efficiency, balance supply and demand, and ensure long-term sustainability, he noted.
He highlighted the National Water Strategy 2030, which aims to develop alternative water sources, reduce dependence on non-renewable groundwater through desalination, enhance distribution networks, and minimize water loss.
Dr. Al-Shaibani also noted the Kingdom's global efforts in the water sector, including its participation in international initiatives like the G20 and collaboration with UN organizations.
Additionally, he underscored investment opportunities in the Saudi water sector, particularly the role of private-sector partnerships, investment in advanced technologies, and contributions to scientific research and water infrastructure development.
