Yanbu: In coordination with the Ministry of Energy and relevant entities, King Fahad Industrial Port in Yanbu received the vessel Pacific Titan, carrying a specialized shipment of nine complete wind turbines, including all their components and accessories, underscoring the role of the Kingdom's ports and logistics zones in supporting renewable energy projects.
According to Saudi Press Agency, the shipment included 27 blades, in addition to several supplementary turbine components intended for wind-based electricity generation. The equipment is designated for the Starah and Shaqra wind energy projects, which form part of the Kingdom's energy ecosystem.
This comes within the framework of the Kingdom's efforts to expand the use of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, with the aim of having renewable energy account for approximately 50% of the energy mix used for electricity generation by 2030, subject to the growth in electricity demand.
These projects form part of the National Renewable Energy Program, whose implementation is overseen by the Ministry of Energy through the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC), the Principal Buyer. SPPC is responsible for conducting preliminary studies, tendering power generation projects, and signing Power Purchase Agreements and Energy Storage Service Agreements with developer consortia.
This shipment, along with similar consignments for wind energy projects under the National Renewable Energy Program, is among the largest ever received and handled through the port's integrated operational and logistics ecosystem. The handling process took into account the specific nature and dimensions of this type of specialized cargo, demonstrating the port's readiness and the efficiency of its operational capabilities.
The receipt of such shipments reflects the continued development of the operational and logistics capabilities of King Fahad Industrial Port in Yanbu. Strategically located on the Red Sea coast, it is fully equipped to receive specialized vessels and handle oversized and heavy cargo.
It also reflects the efforts of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) to develop the Kingdom's port ecosystem, enhance operational and logistics efficiency, and strengthen its role in supporting the supply chains of industrial projects in general and energy projects in particular, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030.
