KAUST Hosts ‘Rising Stars in AI Symposium 2025’ to Cement Saudi Global AI Role

Riyadh: King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) introduced a new wave of rising stars in artificial intelligence (AI) for 2025, showcasing top innovators as part of its ongoing efforts to cement the Kingdom's pivotal role in this expansive technological field.

According to Saudi Press Agency, the 'Rising Stars in AI Symposium 2025,' which the university hosted, focused on enhancing research collaboration, aligning with KAUST's mission as a leading research institution in AI within the Kingdom and beyond.

KAUST president Edward Byrne AC emphasized the importance of expanding discoveries and fostering innovation in the presence of such exceptional talent. The innovators recently presented their work at prestigious AI conferences, including the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems, the International Conference on Machine Learning, and the Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition.

KAUST Center of Excellence for Generative AI chair Professor Bernard Ghanem said that those rising stars recognize KAUST's role within the AI research community. He remarked that the gathering provides an opportunity to showcase these students' pioneering research in generative AI, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. The event also facilitates knowledge exchange, idea generation, and partnership building, reflecting a commitment to scientific excellence and global collaboration.

KAUST dedicated part of the event to exploring image and video analysis, improving the accuracy of educational AI systems in interpreting visual information. Additionally, KAUST and Tawuniya, the largest insurance company in the Middle East and North Africa, signed a memorandum of understanding to promote research collaboration.

The university highlighted its ongoing series of events and the expansion of research partnerships, benefiting the Kingdom and supporting its promising young research capabilities, while investing in the knowledge economy in line with Vision 2030.
